VALENTINE DTLA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY - LA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER EXPERIENCE - KELLY + STUART

This was our last wedding before everything got shut down in 2020. The first weekend of March, when we were still cautious yet did not know how serious this COVID-19 virus was. Kelly, Stuart and all of us are very happy that it happened before things turned upside down.

In fact, they were already married. They didn’t want anything fancy and their wedding ceremony happened somewhat spontaneously at LAX courthouse and got some awesome Vietnamese food to celebrate afterwards, they said. Then Stuart contacted me and said, “we're not huge wedding photo fans, most of them just are too self-serious or cheesy of the couple and the photographer fails to capture beautiful, well-shot images of the friends, family, guests attending the celebration - the 'reception' is often an afterthought, with all the candids being of peoples backs, blurred dancing shots, etc - we're very aware that the 'reception' is basically our whole party!”

I was so happy that we were on the same page about capturing moments in life and that’s actually what matters the most! Woohoo! #jackpot

Since we didn’t have any ceremony, we thought, WHY NOT having some portraits of Kelly and Stuart - who are the kindest, nicest, smartest people I’ve ever met - on the streets of downtown Los Angeles before the “reception” at Valentine DTLA?

YESSSS!

INTIMATE BACKYARD WEDDING IN LOS ANGELES - CAT + SEAN

When I first met Cat, a vice president of A&E Network/Lifetime, and Sean, an amazing musician and writer in Los Angeles, we laughed a lot - OUT LOUD - almost too much because my face hurt. She burst into laughters like I would (which is actually insanely hard to find for some reasons! lol) and the way Sean adores Cat was simply incredible.

Their original wedding was in Los Olivos of Santa Barbara County, but basically everything was canceled in 2020 because of COVID-19 pandemic. So what did we do? We had everyone tested for COVID and got together at their home backyard in LA, just with 12 people and their dog Tito. Sean’s best friend Glen officiated the ceremony.

I personally was very touched by the love Holland and Maddy (Sean’s daughters) have for Cat. I get choked up just thinking about their (including Cat’s) acceptance of life and all other amazing emotions.

The day was simply beautiful, welcoming and cozy; filled with love and euphoria.

LOS ANGELES BACKYARD WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY - ASHLEE + TYLER

As much as COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful, this experience has actually given us reevaluate our previous plans and our values and what’s important in life. The backyard wedding of Ashlee and Tyler just did that (at least for me.) We talked about whether or not we should postpone the wedding. With daily changes of city/state’s restrictions and the virus spread, Tyler’s mom Suzanne and I exchanged many emails and multiple phone calls, and ultimately, it came down to be still thankful for what we have and the ability to celebrate this amazing life event, so it was a GO with just immediate family members and a couple of friends.

Tyler, who’s the biggest fan of LA Dodgers, wore blue suits and we watched LIVE World Series that evening after the wedding.

My ultimate favorite moment of this wedding, which exactly tells their/our story of this time of crisis, was when more of their friends and family members did a “drive-through” in front of the house and congratulated Ashlee and Tyler.

I’m sure all of us will never forget this day.
